U.S. Foodservice, Minnesota continues to shrink our environmental footprint by streamlining our business practice to follow a guideline of more environmental conscious process.
- Enhanced recycling since the beginning of 2007, we have recycled over 140 tons of office paper and cardboard, 2,608 lbs. of aluminium and plastic, and over 25,000 lbs. of processed shrink-wrap. All these recycling efforts have helped to reduce our trash tonnage by over 25%!
- Reduction of waste and reusing resources. Employees are given U.S. Foodservice mugs and water bottles to be used instead of Styrofoam cups. Did you know that Styrofoam is not recyclable and requires 500 years to decompose?
- Reduction of energy usage through the addition of light sensors in restrooms and conference rooms. Also, increased awareness of employees to turn lights off when not in their offices.
- Partnering with Waste Wise. By teaming up with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Waste Wise program, U.S. Foodservice, Minnesota is using more post consumer recycled office products, focusing on the reduction of resources consumed, and providing tools that educate and motivate our staff.
Other projects include an all-out energy assessment, and tree planting for the celebration of Earth Day. Recycling of all plastic and glass containers is promoted throughout the office. In the United States, ninety million plastic bottles are used every day and 90% of them are not recycled. Terrible as it may seem, U.S. Foodservice Minnesota is working to change that.
